1.0 Objective
1.1 To lay down the procedure for operation and cleaning of Horizontal Laminar Air Flow Unit.

2.0 Scope
2.1 This procedure is applicable for the operation and cleaning of Horizontal Laminar Air Flow Unit located in Microbiology Department of modren microbiology ltd.

3.0 Responsibilities
3.1 microbiology personnel shall be responsible for the compliance of this SOP.

3.2 Engineering personnel for preventive maintenance, replacement of ultraviolet lamp, calibration, and validation of Laminar Air Flow Unit.

4.0 Accountability
4.1 Head/designee – Microbiology.

5.0 Procedure

5.1 Cleaning Procedure

5.1.1 Cleaning should be performed during the start of the activity.
5.1.2 Before cleaning, ensure the power supply is switched off.
5.1.3 Dedust the Laminar Air Flow Unit daily externally with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
5.1.4 Clean the inner surface of glass walls and the workbench by spraying 70% IPA using a sterile lint-free cloth.
5.1.5 Do not spray disinfectant solution directly on the filter grills; clean them with a sterile, lint-free cloth
soaked in 70% IPA.
5.1.6 After cleaning the Laminar Air Flow Unit, switch ON the germicidal lamp (UV lamp) for 30 minutes.

5.2 Procedure for Operation of Laminar Air Flow Unit

5.2.1 Ensure that the Laminar Air Flow Unit is properly connected to the power supply.
5.2.2 Press ‘ON’ the ON/OFF power switch on Laminar Air Flow Unit.
5.2.3 Press the green button located at the top right-side corner of the unit for fluorescent light
whenever required and switch off after use by pressing the red button.
5.2.4 Spray 70% IPA on the Laminar Air Flow Unit workbench and mop with a sterile lint-free cloth before and after
every activity.
5.2.5 Press the green button located at the top right-side corner of the Laminar Air Flow Unit for Unidirectional
Flow whenever required and switch off after use by pressing the red button.
5.2.6 Ensure the magnehelic gauge reading (mm of water) of the Laminar Air Flow Unit should be between 13 to 15 mm
of water. Note down the reading daily before each operation..
5.2.7 Now the Laminar Air Flow Unit workstation is ready for use.
5.2.8 Use ON/OFF (Green/Red) buttons located at the top right side of the Laminar Air Flow Unit for the ultraviolet lamp. The Ultraviolet lamp should be switched off before conducting the microbiological testing.

5.3 Frequency

5.3.1 Cleaning frequency: Before and after each operation.
5.3.2 Frequency of UV lamp replacement: The UV lamp should be replaced after completion of 7500 hours.
5.3.3 Report any discrepancy observed during operating the equipment to HOD and notify the defect to the technical officer or service engineer to rectify the defect. Affix “BREAK DOWN” label on the instrument until it gets rectified.
