Operation, Cleaning, And Monitoring Of The Dynamic Pass Box
Objective
The objective of this SOP is to outline a systematic procedure for the operation, cleaning, and monitoring of the dynamic pass box, ensuring consistent and safe laboratory practices at Modern Microbiology Ltd.
Scope
This SOP applies exclusively to the dynamic pass box located in the Microbiology Laboratory of Modern Microbiology Ltd.
Responsibilities
Microbiology PersonnelEnsure compliance with the SOP.
Perform cleaning and monitoring activities as outlined.
Engineering Personnel
Maintain the equipment and ensure it functions according to the established guidelines.
Accountability
The Head/Designee of Microbiology is accountable for overall adherence to the SOP and addressing any issues that arise.
Procedure
1. Operation of the Dynamic Pass Box
*Ensure the pass box is clean and all doors are securely closed.
*Connect the device to a properly grounded power socket and switch it on.
*Use the hand symbol (indicator button) to unlock the door:
*Green Light: Indicates the door is unlocked for material transfer.
*Red Light: Indicates the door is locked.
*Always close the doors promptly after use; an alarm will sound if a door remains open for more than 20 seconds.
*Record UV burning and differential pressure details in the designated format.
2. Cleaning Procedure
*Ensure the pass box is empty before beginning.
*Turn off the power supply and confirm that the pressure gauge reads zero.
*Open the door by swiping your hand over the indicator button.
*Clean surfaces in the following sequence:
*Fluorescent Light and Magnehelic Gauges: Wipe with a clean, dry lint-free cloth.
*Inner and Outer Surfaces, HEPA Filter Grills: Mop using 70% Iso-Propyl Alcohol (IPA).
*Follow the sequence: Internal walls → Base → Outer surfaces.
*Switch the power supply back on and log all cleaning details.
3. UV Light and Blower Usage
*After cleaning, switch on the blower and let it run for 15 minutes.
*Use the UV light for 15–20 minutes as needed:
*Ensure the blower is off during UV light operation.
*Turn off the UV light manually after use.
*Replace the UV light after 7,500 hours of use or as required.
4. Monitoring
*Maintain differential pressure within the range of 8–16 mm water column.
*Ensure one door remains closed while transferring materials.
5. Precautions
*Avoid wetting or damaging the HEPA filters during cleaning.
*Turn off the UV light when microbiological test samples are inside the pass box.
*Report any discrepancies to the HOD and affix a “BREAKDOWN” label until repairs are completed.
